Valley off the mark for Flynn in opener

Orpheus Valley made a winning start for trainer Paul Flynn when taking the opening beginners chase at Cork.

Mick Darcy soon had the Beneficial gelding in front and he stayed on strongly down the straight to record a cosy seven-length success over Tinakellylad

"He jumped well. I was slightly worried about the ground as the only win he had was on good ground for Noel Meade," said Flynn.

"I've had him five or six weeks and told the boys that if he was fit enough he'd run well. I might go for a race in England next.

"He's not too bad I'd say as that wasn't a bad race. He was only rated 109 over hurdles but could be a fair bit better over fences.

"He had a wind operation since his last run and that could have something to do with the improvement."
