Valleymount looks smart in Cork finale

Valleymount under Mikey Fogarty put up a nice performance in the concluding Irish Foal Levy Mares (Pro/Am) Flat Race to send favourite backers home happy at Cork.

Held up, the daughter of Milan made good ground from before the straight and she led a furlong and a half out before going on to beat Winslet by five and a half lengths.

Fran Flood, son of winning trainer Francis, said: "She'll go for a mares bumper at Navan on Troytown Day as that was a good solid performance there. She didn't get an over-hard race.

"She travelled well and picked them up easily. If she is as good for her owner (and breeder Tom McParland) as her mammy (Newhall, won six races) she'll be alright."

This was a welcome winner for the Floods, there last being Pom Flyer at Tipperary in the middle of July.
