There was a highly impressive victor of the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden at Cork, as Variable justified the confidence of those that made her the 8/11 favourite, in style, under Pat Smullen, doubling his score on the evening.

Smullen landed the opener for Eddie Lynam, on Promised Money by a neck, but it was much smoother here in the Abdullah silks, on Variable, for his boss, Dermot Weld.

In a somewhat similar vein to Promised Money, Variable didn't come up to expectations on debut, when second as a 'twos-on' shot at Gowran on April 26th.

Here, the beautifully bred three-year-old, by Sea The Stars, out of a Group 1 winner in Proportional, powered away inside the last after travelling at her ease, to eclipse Sense Of Victory by all of six and a half lengths.

"She was green first-time out, more so than we were expecting. We were still very happy with her and the penny seemed to drop as the game was up," commented Weld's son Kris.

"She has won nicely and with her pedigree she'll be looking for black-type sooner rather than later. She is still a little immature and far from the finished article."
