Vic sees them off in Moriarty

Citizen Vic produced a good front-running performance to claim the Grade 1 Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase.

The 12/1 shot was there to be shot at turning in but found plenty for Paul Townend from the last. Zaarito looked a big danger going to the final fence, only to crash out, and it was Weapon's Amnesty who gave the winner most to do.

He could only get within a length-and-three-quarters, however, as Willie Mullins charge kept on strongly.

"That's fantastic. He's improved and Ruby said after Punchestown to step him up in trip," said Mullins.

"Unfortunately he was on the other horse. Vinny just didn't jump - he was too careful.

"Paul gave the winner a great ride from the front, he settled well. He's in the RSA Chase but my first thought would be the Power Gold Cup at Fairyhouse.

"He looks tailor made for that but we'll also have a think about the English race.

"Paul said he jumped great and had plenty in the locker the whole way. He didn't do anything wrong and just jumped and galloped." Cousin Vinny finished back in fifth and Mullins admitted a switch back to hurdles could be on the cards.

"He jumped too big and careful. I'll have a chat to the owners about going back over hurdles.

"He's not going to be competitive in top class races jumping like that."
