Bronte landed the odds when overcoming Surreal with 200 yards to race in the opening seven furlong fillies’ maiden for three-year-olds at Roscommon.

The daughter of Oasis Dream, who holds an entry in the Group 3 Brownstone Stakes, had much the best form on show with three second places to her name including last time at Gowran Park.

Fitted with cheekpieces for the first time, she was backed from an opening show of even money down to 4/5 on the off to score for David Wachman and Wayne Lordan.

Surreal (8/1) had set out to make all under Gary Carroll and was only collared inside the final furlong by Bronte who had raced in second throughout.

Surreal was then grabbed right on the line by the fast-finishing Goddess Of Love (13/2), who gave David Wachman a one-two on her debut.

“She was entitled to do that. The ground was a little slow for her. She likes it faster,” Wayne Lordan said.

“She travelled well and picked up, but she didn’t pick up as well as I thought due to the ground. She deserved that.” Howaya Hurricane was the gamble in the ring from 16/1 to 7/1 for Gerard and Colin Keane. She came in fourth, two lengths behind third-placed Surreal. Colin Keane put up 2lbs overweight.

The ground at Roscommon was yielding this morning on the flat track, but after some heavy showers changed to yielding to soft before the first race.
