Star Of Burma wore down front-runner Hammersmith in the closing stages to land the finale at Gowran Park this evening.

Sheila Lavery 's charge was produced to challenge on the inner over a furlong out by Jack Cleary, in the mile-and-five contest.

The 11/1 shot got on top in the closing stages to prevail by half a length.

Star Of Burma, a daughter of Sea The Stars, was making just her fifth career outing and her second in handicap company.

Lavery said:- “She’s been a long time in the making. Jack said she loved that but I wasn’t sure if the ground might be a bit fast and I thought she’d need the run.

“I thought he gave her a really nice ride and she stayed the trip well. She’s a very well-bred filly.

“We’ll probably look for something similar.”
