John Joe Walsh's excellent record at Limerick continued today when his Whiskey And Rye became the Co Cork trainer's 19th winner at the track in the last five years, winning the Family Day 7th April Handicap Hurdle under Brian O'Connell.

The son of Catcher In The Rye raced behind the leaders before being produced to lead at the last for a two and a quarter lengths win over Tristram Shandy

Afterwards Walsh stated “he stayed on well in the ground and jumped well. He won at Clonmel the last day but before that was unlucky when he fell on the Flat here over Christmas when we fancied him. We'll go for another handicap next.”

The concluding bumper at Limerick today, the Jack Absolute (Ladies) Bumper, is named in honour of Walsh's course specialist which has won six races at the venue.
