Wind blows hot in Ruby

Wild Wind swooped inside the final furlong to land the spoils in the Vincent O'Brien Ruby Stakes at Killarney.

The Listed race was run at a strong pace with Royal Blue Star and Bay Knight duelling at the head of affairs.

The later just got the measure of his rival over a furlong from home but couldn't hold the run of Wild Wind inside the final furlong.

Colm O'Donoghue 's mount was on top in the closing stages to record a length-and-three-quarter success. Barack stayed on well close home to pip Bay Knight for the runner-up spot.

The Ballydoyle winner had been third in the French Guineas earlier in the season but had only shown glimpses of that ability since.

"The pace was strong throughout and she quickened up and did it well," said O'Donoghue. "Going to the start she was the best I have felt her all year."

It was a fourth win in a row for Ballydoyle runners in the race which is apt given that the race is named after the original Master Of Ballydoyle.

Winning owner Mrs Sue Magnier is also a daughter of the legendary trainer.
