Review navan 19th Dec

Stewards at Navan found connections of Take A Stroll guilty of using the racecourse as a training ground.

They handed out a 60-day ban to the horse, trainer Christy Roche was fined & euro;2,000 and his amateur rider son Padraig has been suspended for 10 days.

The punishments came after the Santa Claus Maiden Hurdle in which Take A Stroll, owned by J P McManus, was sent off a 25-1 chance and finished 11th behind the Noel Meade-trained Hollo Ladies

The latter was the first leg of a double for local trainer Meade.

Hollo Ladies landed a touch after being backed from as high as 9-2 in the morning into 7-4 favourite.

Davy Condon's mount saw off his main market-rival Far Away So Close by three lengths.

"The winning owner, Richard Heaney lives just across the fields from me," said Meade.

"He stays well and even though he is flat bred, he'll be better over another half a mile. We knew he'd put his head down and gallop, he jumps well and we'll find a novice hurdle for him somewhere now."< Thegreatjohnbrowne (4-6) duly landed the odds in the 2010 Navan Membership 'The Ideal Christmas Gift' Maiden Hurdle.

Partnered by the owner's son, M J Doran, the five-year-old completed the brace, winning by two and a half lengths from The Big Boyo

"That was grand. The last was the only hiccup & ndash; he is still a bit green. He'd want further and a better gallop," said Meade.

"He works like a nice horse but he is one for the future & ndash; over fences in time. He didn't win well enough to go for the Slaney Hurdle (at Naas) so we'll find something for him in the New Year."

Condon also got in on the double act thanks to replacing the unwell Paddy Flood on City Of Doral (8-1) in the Christmas Cracker Handicap Hurdle for trainer Jimmy Lambe.
