A Country Girl wins Wexford finale

The Christy Roche trained A Country Girl came from last to first to win the concluding Casey Concrete New Ross Mares Bumper at Wexford today.

Ridden by the trainer’s son Padraig Roche, the daughter of Flemensfirth moved to the front under a furlong out before staying on well to defeat newcomer Dr Machini

Afterwards Roche Snr stated “I warned Padraig not to get to the front too soon but he did and I thought she was going to get beaten!

“I was fairly confident before the race but Willie (Mullins, trainer of the runner-up) fancied his one too. She’ll go jumping now and is a lovely filly.”
