Admiral takes opener at Tramore

The opening Waterford & Tramore Directors (Ladies) Maiden was won by the Eoin Griffin trained Admiral Barry under an enterprising ride by Liz Lalor.

Lalor who is aiming claim her second ladies title on the point to point circuit is currently level with Maxine O’Sullivan with only days left.

Lalor who made steady progress to join the leaders down the back straight improved to lead under a furlong out and sprinted clear close home to score by a convincing five lengths.

Winning trainer Griffin said afterwards: “There were no hurdles today! It has been a long frustrating wait, he has loads of ability but he is not most eager of horses.”

“We’ll keep him on the flat now and we’ll look for another handicap and then maybe go for the GPT at Galway.”

“We used run him in cheek pieces, noseband and blinkers but we took everything off today and it seems to have given him a new lease of life.”
