Alanza confirms her promise

Alanza relished the step up in trip to a mile when staying on well to take the Listed Platinum Satkes at Cork with Niall McCullagh in the plate.

Jonh Oxx’s three-year-old filly collared Aidan O’Brien’s Wild Wind (5/1) in the final furlong to win going away by three parts of a length. She was returned 5/2 joint favourite. Claiomh Solais was the other 5/2 joint favourite, backed in from an opening show of 100/30, but disappointed in 9th place.

John Oxx said: “Alanza stayed well. We thought seven furlongs was her trip but it looks like a mile or further is the best distance.

“She ran twice this year over six furlongs and it helped to settle her down. She was quite keen early on in life.

“She is bred to go a bit in distance. She is doing things right now.

“She has no big entries. We were going to go to the Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary over seven and a half furlongs but we’ll see. Maybe she wants further.” Hujaylea trained by Michael Halford completed the placings in third at 14/1.
