Born To Sea has been retired to stud after picking up an injury in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown yesterday.

The half-brother to Sea The Stars could only finish fifth in yesterday's Group One contest behind Snow Fairy and was found to be lame this morning.

Connections have decided to call time on his racing career, the highlight of which was a second-placed effort in the Irish Derby behind Camelot.

The John Oxx-trained son of Invincible Spirit gained his sole victory on his debut when landing a Curragh listed event last year.

As well as finishing runner-up in the Irish Derby Christopher Tsui's colt was also second in the Group Two Royal Whip Stakes.

An official statement was released to the press today:-

"We felt that there was something amiss with his action in the last two furlongs of the race and we found this morning that he was lame behind.

"He will need some rest and because it is now in the later stages of the season there will not be time to prepare him for any of his end of season objectives.

"Therefore in view of the very significant interest that there is in him as a stallion it has been decided to retire him."
