The decision to travel to Sligo, from Gowran earlier today, paid off for jockey Fran Berry today, when completing a double on Stocktons Wing in the Sligo Handicap.

Berry was earlier out of luck on his two mounts at Gowran, and having then steered Ted Veale to win the 1m2f maiden at Sligo, doubled his score on the J.P. McManus owned Stocktons Wing. The son of Jeremy moved clear inside the final furlong for a two and a quarter lengths win over Shabra Emperor

Winning trainer Charles O'Brien was not present and Berry, when asked whether he had arrived at the venue by helicopter, replied “no, Mercedes! A friend drove me up and we made it up in three hours and things worked out great.”

“Stocktons Wing loves that ground; you wouldn't think it by looking at him but every time he has run on it he has gone through it well. He'll keep paying his way and should make a nice dual purpose horse in time.”
