Gordon Lord Byron will run in new colours just for his next outing after ownership of the popular 11-year-old was offered as one of the lots in the auction for Pat Smullen Cancer Trials Ireland.

Trainer Tom Hogan has chosen the Group Three Manguard Plus Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh later this month as the race his evergreen veteran will don different silks for a good cause.

Hogan reports his Group One-winning stable stalwart ready to go again after his brave effort to finish fourth under top-weight of 9st 12lb in a premier handicap at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend.

“It was a great run the other day and he’s in good form, so we are going to run in the Renaissance Stakes on the 28th,” said the County Tipperary handler.

“There was an ownership experience auctioned off for the Pat Smullen cancer charity so he’ll run in new colours.

“Kieran Gleeson, of Ardmore Equine Nutrition, bought the ownership experience for a day for his wife and it will be on the 28th in the Renaissance.”
