The Ger Lyons trained Shukhov gained an overdue win, at the 14th attempt, in the Crowne Plaza Dundalk Champions Handicap when completing jockey Gary Carroll's double at Dundalk this evening.

Carroll, earlier successful on Lily Of Kenmare chased the leaders on the son of Ivan Denisovich before progressing to lead a furlong out, eventually recording a three parts of a length win over If Per Chance

Lyons was represented by his brother Shane who later said “he (Shukhov) was beaten in a few tight finishes in maidens and that was a long time overdue! He had a wind operation and he has come back good in the autumn and he has got his confidence back.

“If the handicapper isn't too hard on him he should be able to win another one or two over the winter. I'm delighted for Sean (Jones) who is a great supporter of the yard and nice to get him a winner just before Christmas.”
