Gordon Elliott has confirmed Don Cossack on course for his first Grade One assignment in the Navan Novice Hurdle on Sunday week.

The five-year-old impressed when winning each of his three bumpers in Ireland last season and got his career over obstacles off to the perfect start when winning comfortably under Davy Russell at Navan last month.

Elliott has given his stable star an entry in the Meath Novice Hurdle at the same track on Saturday, but he is likely to wait until the following weekend.

Elliott said: "He was very good at Navan and he has come out of that race very well.

"There is a winners-of-one (race) at Navan this Saturday, but he is almost certain to wait for the Grade One there the following weekend.

"That race is over two and a half miles, but he won a bumper at Naas over two miles and three (furlongs) last season, so he won't mind the step up in trip. He jumped super the last day and it was great to get that out of the way.

"He is a very exciting horse and there isn't a great deal for him over Christmas, so at the minute the plan is to go to Navan the weekend after next."
