Defy Logic to miss season

County Wexford trainer Paul Nolan has been dealt a devastating blow for the season, with stable star Defy Logic ruled out indefinitely having injured a tendon on the gallops.

The brilliant winner of last year’s Grade 1 Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown, when comfortably seeing off Trifolium and Champagne Fever with an electric round of jumping, had only come back into training recently.

The JP McManus-owned son of Flemensfirth was last seen breaking a blood vessel back in January when sent off a warm favourite to account for old adversary Trifolium in the Frank Ward Solicitors Irish Arkle. That injury forced the seven-year-old to miss last season’s Cheltenham Festival, for which he was at the top-end of the betting for the Arkle Chase.

Speaking from his Toberona Stables, Nolan confirmed the news: “It’s a serious blow to the stable to have such a class act ruled out for the season. It’s a tendon injury and he’s back in Martinstown now recuperating. We hadn’t decided what his targets were this year and it’s just disappointing to lose a season before it even started.”
