Noel Meade completed a good day's work at Down Royal today as his Apache Stronghold made a winning debut in the concluding Archie Watson Memorial Bumper, to complete a notable double on the day for the multiple Champion Trainer.

Meade's potentially high class Monksland earlier took the featured Grade 2 WKD Hurdle and Apache Stronghold looks another useful recruit to the yard, when justifying 9/4f favouritism in the concluding winners' bumper.

Ridden by Nina Carberry, the son of Milan moved to the front over a furlong out and stayed on well for a three lengths win over Isle View

Afterwards Meade stated “ Apache Stronghold was a lovely big horse last season but we didn't get much done with him. Paul (Carberry) rode work on him last week and we were a bit worried about the ground here but he got through it well and I imagine he'll go jumping now. He's a great big horse.”
