Peter Fahey recorded the first double of his four year training career, and his 33rd in total, when Owega Star landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Chase at Cork today under Andrew Leigh.

Leigh, a brother-in-law of the winning trainer, sat tight on the son of Basanta which blundered at the fourth fence but the pair moved into contention in the four runner race at the fifth last fence. From the last Owega Star outbattled Golden Wonder by a neck.

Fahey later stated “I'm delighted he won but he had to work hard for it and I thought he'd have won easier. We always knew he was better going left-handed and Andrew (Leigh) said he was hanging and not jumping or travelling as well as he usually does.

“We probably won't run him right-handed again and he'll have a break now until Christmas.”
