Fame on track for rematch with Stars

Aidan O'Brien's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby winner Fame And Glory delighted stable jockey Johnny Murtagh in a racecourse gallop at Leopardstown yesterday.

The Montjeu colt has only once tasted defeat from six career starts, that coming at the hands of John Oxx's brilliant charge Sea The Stars in the Investec Derby at Epsom in June.

Fame And Glory soon regained the winning thread with an impressive display in the Irish equivalent, and a rematch with his Epsom conqueror in the the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes on September 5 looks to be on the cards.

Murtagh said: "He worked brilliantly and we're delighted with him."

In other news from Ballydoyle, Black Bear Island will have his final start for the stable before heading off to pastures new in the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park tomorrow.

The Sadler's Wells colt won the Dante Stakes at York in May, before finishing down the field in the Investec Derby and claiming third place in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He disappointed on his most recent start at Longchamp and has since been snapped up by American owners, and will move to a new stable in the US after Satu day's valuable event.

"Ten furlongs is probably his best trip if there is plenty of pace on for him," said O'Brien.

"He is a horse who likes a flat track and an even gallop, which is what he got at York in the Dante, which was probably his best performance. We think he will do well over there (being trained in America)," he told At The Races.

Murtagh will ride before jetting back for the meeting at Tipperary on Sunday, where his mounts include the well-regarded Viscount Nelson in the Coolmore Hurricane Run Stakes.
