Famous Name hits the big time

The Dermot Weld trained Famous Name broke through the €1m prizemoney mark at The Curragh this evening, winning the four runner Group 3 Irish Daily Mail International Stakes easily by six lengths.

Ridden by Pat Smullen, the son of Dansili moved to the front over a furlong out before stringing on strongly for an effortless six lengths win over Jan Vermeer

Afterwards a delighted Weld stated “that brings his total prizemoney to over €1m. I’m very proud of him as he’s such a model of consistency and his enthusiasm for racing is special.”

“We’ll see how the year goes on but his main target will be to try to win a first Group 1. He has come close a few times and I’ll speak to Lord Grimthorpe (racing manager to owner Kahled Abdulla) to see what plan we will have for the second half of the season.”
