Flemenstar put in another terrific display of jumping to rout his six rivals in the Grade 1 Powers Gold Cup Chase at Fairyhouse, the feature race on day one of the Easter Festival.

Andrew Lynch on board the 11/10 favourite was content to track Davy Russell and Rathlin but he moved into the lead three out and surged clear before putting in two great leaps at the final fences.

He won the two and a half mile contest eased down by 11 lengths from Rathlin (4/1). False Economy was five lengths further back in third at 7/1.

Jubilant trainer Peter Casey said: “He’ll go home now and go out to grass. It’s unreal for a little man like me to have a horse like that.

“My son Francis said this morning that he would destroy them and he was right. We’ll look to Cheltenham next year.”

Owner Stephen Curran commented: “We are lucky to have him. It’s great to have a nice horse.”

Jockey Andrew Lynch said: “He has plenty of gas and does everything so easy. He has got gears but probably wouldn’t want the ground any quicker.”

The seven-year-old son of Flemensfirth has won five races in a row as a novice to mark himself down as one of Ireland’s most exciting horses.
