Fox Power was a decisive winner of the Ladbrokes Burradon Stakes at Newcastle.
A competitive field of 11 runners went to post for the Good Friday feature at Gosforth Park, with John Gosden’s Daarik the 5-2 favourite ahead of Ed Vaughan’s Classic hope Magic J and other exciting colts such as Bayroot and Creationist.
Having won just one of his six starts as a juvenile for Richard Hannon, Fox Power was a 7-1 shot for his seasonal reappearance in the 100,000 pound Listed contest and was ridden positively from the outset by three-times champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa.
After initially taking a lead from Ebury, Fox Power hit the front with over two furlongs still to run and had enough in hand to see off the persistent challenge of Daarik by a length and a quarter.
Bayroot finished a close-up third, but Magic J was disappointing, trailing home a well-beaten eighth.
Fox Power was providing owners King Power Racing and their their newly-appointed retained rider De Sousa with a sixth winner in just nine days.
The ownership group was formerly led by the late Leicester City owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who tragically died in a helicopter crash in October, along with four other people.
