Lake George backed in from around 12/1 earlier, into 5/1, justified the confidence of his supporters to credit his jockey Daniel Redmond with a ninth winner when capturing the Sligo Rovers Raceday August 5th Handicap.

The Alkaadhem seven-year-old has been a good servant to his owner/breeder P J Kavanagh, and his trainer James Barrett (his first runner at Sligo), and he was winning his sixth 'gold medal' on this occasion.

Lake George had won off a 10Ib higher mark in the past and after taking over from Enigma Code in the straight he went on to oblige by a length and three parts.

"He was back down to a competitive mark and that's the first time he's got his ground all year," reflected Barrett.

"He's in good old form. He's honest and tough and runs his race everyday he is out. It's been so wet and the ground is a major factor for him.

"He's in again at Limerick on Friday and if he comes out of this fresh and well he'll go again."

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Lake George, trained by James M. Barrett, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

The Stewards requested a report from James M. Barrett, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Lake George, winner, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that this horse was unsuited by the soft ground at Limerick last time and back on a firmer surface today seemed to bring about a return to form. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the contents of the report.
