Gowran Park racecourse has announced that leading bloodstock sales company Goffs has agreed to extend its sponsorship of the historic Thyestes Chase until 2024.

Gowran Park General Manager Eddie Scally said “We are very pleased that Goffs have continued to sponsor our biggest race. The Goffs brand is renowned in racing and is a perfect fit got our time honoured chase. The Goffs Thyestes Chase is without question the most anticipated race at Gowran Park and Goffs continued support of this is a massive vote of confidence to us all at Gowran Park.”

Henry Beeby, Goffs Group Chief Executive said “Goffs is delighted to continue our association with the iconic Thyestes Chase which is one of the key races in the National Hunt calendar and a superb days racing”.

The Thyestes Chase has been a constant fixture of the Irish jumps calendar since the 1950's and boasts an impressive roll of honour that includes the great Arkle as well as Aintree Grand National winners Hedgehunter and Numbersixvalverde.

This year's race takes place this Thursday (23rd January) at the Co. Kilkenny venue with the first race on a strong supporting card due to commence at 12.45pm.

The big race itself, the Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase with a total prize pool of €100,000 is scheduled to begin at 3pm.

Courtesy buses will be running from Kilkenny Castle from 10.45am on Thursday morning and gates open at the course at 10.30am.
