Ground likely to force Ramone out of Matron

Ramone looks set to miss the Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes at Leopardstown with conditions unlikely to favour Bill Farrell's filly.

The daughter of Marju sprang a 100-1 shock in the Group Three Park Express Stakes at the Curragh at the start of the season when revelling in testing ground.

She subsequently chased home Brooch in Group Two company at the same venue and has not run since a slightly unlucky effort behind Home Of The Brave at the course in July.

Farrell feels it would be unfair to ask her to compete at Group One level on ground that would not play to her strengths.

"It all depends on the ground. At the moment I wouldn't be very hopeful as she'd want it very easy," said Farrell.

"I walked Leopardstown the other day when it was good in the straight and yielding down the back, and it's been drying since.

"I'd say we'll be a no-show as at that level she'd want everything in her favour.

"I'd prefer to be at home than have a bad run. We ran her on fast ground before and it was a bad idea.

"She's still in the Sun Chariot at Newmarket in October, but again that would depend on ground.

"She'll probably go to the sales at the end of the year and we want to keep her reputation intact."
