Fatcatinthehat threw away certain victory in the juvenile maiden hurdle at Punchestown when taking a crashing fall at the final flight. Hartside was the beneficiary as he was left clear to claim the spoils in the two-mile event.

The front-running 4/9 favourite had things all wrapped up as he scooted clear of his rivals turning for home.

He failed to get high enough at the last, however, and paid the price.

Hartside eventually posted an eight-length victory over Hazariban

“I was wondering was he going to win after the other fella fell as he had a look around as if to say should I stop!” said winning trainer Noel Meade afterwards.

“He's a grand little horse and won three at a moderate enough level on the Flat. It's a good way to finish the year – so well done him!”
