It has been confirmed by Government that horse racing will resume behind closed doors at the beginning of Phase 2 of the Roadmap for reopening society and business on June 8.
NPHET had originally included horse racing in Phase 3 of the roadmap document scheduled to begin on June 29 but following two weeks of lobbying and negotiating from Horse Racing Ireland and other senior figures within the industry the date for resumption has been moved forward by 21 days.
Horse Racing Ireland is expected to release a statement later today which will hopefully give details regarding the safety protocols they intend to implement and the rescheduled fixture list.
Fine Gael TD for Longford/Westmeath Peter Burke issued the following tweet earlier confirming the news:
Horse Racing to return behind closed doors with strict protocols from June 8th. Much needed certainty for the sector. @HRIRacing @RacingPost @TheIrishField— Peter Burke (@peterburkefg) May 15, 2020
