The Willie Mullins trained Indevan scored a second win over fences at Killarney today when jumping boldly to win the Benchmark Hospitality Novice Chase under Paul Townend.
The son of Indesatchel, whose chase debut at Kilbeggan in June was littered by mistakes, was following up a good round of jumping at Tipperary last month with a similarly professional display today, scoring easily from Ballylongford, by 12 lengths.
Mullins later stated “he stayed on nicely, and it was a good performance from Paul as well as he's suffering from a bit of a stomach bug today.
“This horse can easily go out in trip and has enough speed and has stamina as well. He likes the ground, and is not a real winter horse.”
Jockey Andrew Lynch found himself before the stewards following the race for his ride on Ballylongford, for which he receives a four day suspension for improper riding.
The Stewards report reads:
''The Stewards enquired into an incident approaching the third last fence involving Bally Longford ridden by A.E. Lynch, placed second and Indevan (GB), ridden by P. Townend, placed first. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that A.E.Lynch had ridden improperly(Rule 214) and having considered his record, suspended him for four race days.'
