Jonathan Burke is set to miss the remainder of the season having torn tendons in his right shoulder in a fall at Navan on Sunday.

Burke received a second last flight fall from Stole The Show in Navan’s opener and subsequently went for assessment on his right shoulder. Speaking today, his agent Gary Cribbin stated “Jonathan went for an MRI with shoulder specialist Hannan Mullett in Santry yesterday and it has been confirmed he has torn tendons in his right shoulder.

“He will probably miss the remainder of the season and it is desperate hard luck for him, with the injuries he had in 2016. He’ll go for surgery next week but is remaining amazingly upbeat, despite it being a big blow to him especially at this time of year when he would have had rides at Cheltenham next month.”

Burke, who had ridden 55 and 42 winners in each of the last two seasons, had fractured vertabrae and fractured a fibula in separate falls in 2016.
