Irish Derby gets prize money boost The Curragh has announced a huge boost in prize money for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on June 25. Total prize money for the Classic will increase by 250,000 euros to 1.5 million euros, which includes significant increases for the placed horses and prize money down to eighth. There will also be extra "win and you're in" races where the entry fee will be refunded. The first four home in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, Prix du Jockey Club and the Investec Derby, plus the winners of several races, which include the Irish 1,000 Guineas, King Edward VII Stakes and the Prix de Diane, will have any entry or supplementary fees refunded. Paul Hensey, the Curragh's general manager, said: "We have identified the key races which should generate runners for this year's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby and we hope that this exciting initiative in addition to the increase in prize money for the 2016 renewal will maximise the potential for us to encourage owners and trainers to be part of Ireland's greatest and most valuable horse race."
