The Paul Gilligan-trained Jadanli carries Irish hopes in the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow this afternoon.

A general 33/1 chance in the 18-runner extended 3m5f event, the 11-year-old will be ridden by Alain Cawley.

Winner of the Grade 1 Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse in 2010, Jadanli finished a gallant third in the Goffs Thyestes Chase at Gowran last January and has also been in decent form this season.

The Saddlers’ Hall gelding again made the frame in another valuable staying handicap when fourth in the Ladbrokes Troytown Chase at Navan in November.

Like a few in the field, he is a confirmed mudlark and should relish the testing conditions.

Gilligan said, "He has a lovely racing weight (10st 5lb). I walked the track on Thursday evening and it’s heavy ground, which he should like.

"You need a lot of luck in running but, if he gets that, I think he could run a big race. He's a horse who has had a lot of leg trouble, but I've been happy with his three runs this season.

"Alain is doing well across the water and he's local to me here at home,” added the Athenry trainer.
