Legendary owner J P McManus has bought Tap Night in a private deal that will see the progressive gelding remain in training with Scotland's leading jumps handler Lucinda Russell.

The five-year-old was formerly owned by Jane Buchanan - sister of Russell's stable jockey Peter Buchanan - who unearthed him in the US where she works as a stable manager.

Tap Night has won four of his eight starts over hurdles including the Grade 2 totepool Premier Hurdle at Kelso in March. He returned to winning form under top-weight at Ayr earlier this month and is entered in a Listed hurdle at Newbury on Thursday and a novice chase at Carlisle on Sunday.

Miss Russell said: "It's wonderful to have those famous green and gold colours in the yard. Tap Night seems to have come on for his first run of the season and we're not sure where he will go next but he's going over fences eventually. We've always rated him highly and he has a big future."
