On a day of doubles at Navan, Aidan and Joseph O'Brien got in on the act as Athens added to the earlier gains from Kissed in taking the four runner Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Race.

A son of Dylan Thomas, Athens appreciated the drop down from Group company, making all and keeping on well from over a furlong out to beat Ursa Major by two lengths.

Joseph O'Brien said: "He's an uncomplicated horse and he did that the hard way.

"I'd like to think he'd get a bit further (this was a mile and a quarter)."

On a poor enough day for the layers at Proudstown Park, Athens was a fifth winning favourite from seven races, the only real chink of light coming for the 'books' with Little Village s 25/1 success in the sprint handicap. (AM & EM)
