The Jim Dreaper trained Oscar Leney made a successful trip to Southwell this afternoon as he took the Betfred Goals Galore Handicap Chase over three miles under jockey Richie McGrath.

The 6yo son of Oscar won a point-to-point on his fifth attempt at Laurencetown in May and had subsequent track winners The Great Shanghai and Weslife behind him on that occasion.

He since ran poorly in three novice chases on the track here before again running below par at Towcester early last month.

Having his first start in handicap company this afternoon he was as big as 10/3 this morning but opened on track at 5/2 and went off at that price.

He hit the front turning for home and put in decent jumps at the last three before being driven out on the run-in to score by a length and a half from Flichity in second at 10/1.

The front pair went thirteen lengths clear of Legendary Hop (5/1) in third while the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained 13/8 favourite Kilvergan Boy could only manage a disappointing fourth under Sam Twiston-Davies.

The winner could bid to quickly follow up tomorrow as he is declared for the 2m 4f Collins Seafoods Ltd Handicap Chase at Sedgefield.

Should he take up that engagement he will carry a seven pound winners penalty.
