Whiskey And Red was 'put through the floor' in the market for the Molony Cup Handicap Chase at Thurles and he justified the confidence of those that backed him into 6/4 favouritism by landing the long-standing three miler in the hands of Davy Russell.

It was tough work at the business end as Whiskey And Red and Robertstown Rover the two last time out winners in the line-up, battled it out up the straight.

Backed from two to one early offers, into his starting price, the winner got the better of Robertstown Rover from the back of the last to score by a length and three parts. They left Spiker The Biker all of twenty six lengths behind in third.

Colin Bowe trains the now twice Thurles victor for the P K Racing Syndicate and the Wexford handler said: "He's in at Down Royal on Wednesday and he'll run there if he's okay.

"He jumps very very well and he's a good tough genuine horse." (TW & EM)
