Denaar is likely to head to Royal Ascot following his likeable victory at Newbury on Saturday.

The Coventry Stakes, for which he earned quotes between 6-1 and 10-1, would be the obvious target for the Acclamation colt after he took his 100 per cent record to two with a cosy win over Starlight Mystery as he stepped up to six furlongs.

Denaar is already being compared as a similar sort to Mehmas, from the same owner/trainer combination of Al Shaqab Racing and Richard Hannon, who won the same Newbury contest 12 months ago.

He went on to finish second in the Coventry before going on to lift a brace of Group Two prizes - the July and Richmond Stakes - in his one and only season on the track as he is now at stud.

"He's a really nice horse. He's very much like Mehmas last year - a very gutsy, game horse," said Al Shaqab's racing manager, Harry Herbert.

"I think we'll definitely head to Royal Ascot with him, all being well, and have a go. It was no problem for him over six.

"He's a very game horse and he's one to enjoy in this first part of the season and we'll go to the Royal meeting as long as he's OK."
