Silver Star was the well backed winner of the JP Corry Building Suppliers Hurdle at Downpatrick today, as the Gordon Elliott trained gelding won under Champion Jockey Davy Russell.

The French bred son of Silver Frost opened a 7/1 chance this morning but was eventually returned 5/2 second favourite. The grey was nicely clear when making a mistake at the final flight and recovered well to beat Cooldine Bog by four and a quarter lengths.

Elliott later said “he was one of out better chances coming here.

"He travelled well throughout and he did it grand and everybody is happy. He has loads of different roads to go - he can go on the Flat and over fences."

“The owners (Royal's & Blue Syndicate) are all Summerhill men so we are hopeful it's the start of a very big weekend for us (Summerhill play Dunboyne in the Meath SFC final on Sunday).”
