Townend completes Wexford double

Paul Townend completed a double when Glacial Promise justified his price when landing the Courtown Beginners Chase for trainer Leonard Whitemore.

Townend who had to work hard aboard the even money favourite from the second last got his head in front on the run-in and kept on well to hold off long time leader Paddy O Dee by a length and a quarter.

Winning owner Johnathan Redmond said afterwards: “He was entitled to win on his last two runs. Two mile and three is probably a shade short for him.”

“We probably go for a novice chase next but we’ll have to discuss it with the trainer.”

Townend was on the mark earlier when Cylindar Rattler landed the Curracloe Handicap Hurdle for trainer Philip Rothwell.
