Drumlister put an unfortunate run out at Downpatrick last month behind him when taking the two miles and six furlongs tramore-racecourse.com Handicap Chase in fine style.

The 2/1 favourite made most of the running to complete a quick double for Paul Townend, who picked up a chance ride here after Davy Russell was stood down following a fall in the previous beginners chase.

The six-year-old son of Luso stayed on well from the second last to beat Mister Watzisname (7/1) by six lengths, with Tomcoole Lad (20/1) another three lengths away in third.

Townend initiated his double half-an-hour earlier on The Amarillo Kid in the beginners chase, while Russell was shaken by the fall but hopeful of returning to the saddle on Sunday.

Winning trainer Arthur Moore said, “It’s a long time since I paid 33 thousand for him as a foal, and the ground is the key to him. All being well he will run at Downpatrick on Tuesday before Noel (O’Brien – handicapper) gets time to reassess him.

“The Hale’s have been with us a long time, and this is their son Paul’s first winner.”
