Preview thurles 13th Feb

Pick of the action at Thurles if the seven-race card gets the go-ahead is the Clonmore Handicap Hurdle, in which Kilmainham will be attempting to follow up his easy maiden hurdle success at the venue last month.

He looks on a fair mark as he goes handicapping, but the likes of Malt Gem and Treat Yourself have been going well recently and should provide stiff opposition.

Racing gets under way at 2.05 with the Holy Cross Mares Maiden Hurdle and Speckled Wood will be strongly fancied to get off the mark following two highly promising efforts to date.

The most recent of them came when she was second to the highly regarded Unika La Reconce at this venue just before Christmas.

Sporting the famous green and gold hoops of JP McManus, she looks to have a decent future, and the same colours should be to the fore in the next race, the Thurles.ie Maiden Hurdle, with Time Please holding solid claims.

However, Follow The Sign shaped well on his recent hurdling bow at Punchestown, while Rolly Baby is a fascinating runner making his first start since finishing second in a Clonmel bumper some 825 days ago.

The Killinan Handicap Hurdle looks highly competitive with the likes of Cilliseal and Robbie McMahon in good form, but recent Fairyhouse victor Twin Plan is at the right end of the handicap and could have a few pounds up her sleeve.

In the Littleton Handicap Hurdle, claims are afforded to Alasty, Zekarya and A Decent Excuse, but this three-mile event looks another tricky one for punters to solve.

Similar sentiments apply to the concluding bumper, the Munster INH Flat Race. A market check is advisable with so many newcomers on show, although Afatcat and Band Of Blood both made promising debuts and shouldn't be too far away.
