Trainer Mick Winters will wait on the results of a crucial scan next week before making plans for high-class chaser Rebel Fitz.

The 2012 Galway Hurdle hero has struck six times from eight starts over the larger obstacles and was last seen clinching Grade One glory in the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse in April.

A planned appearance in the Galway Plate was scuppered after the nine-year-old returned from Fairyhouse with a leg injury, but Winters hopes to get the green light to step up his work next week before hopefully returning to action in the autumn.

"He's back with us now having had six weeks down in Carlow on the treadmill," said the trainer.

"We let him loose in the sand ring the other day and he seems in good order and the plan is for him to have a scan next week to see how things are coming along.

"Hopefully he's making good progress as he's not a horse who wants to be sitting around doing very little.

"Hopefully we might have him back to run in Listowel (September), or maybe even the hurdle race in Tipperary (October)."
