Review roscommon 27th Sep

< Save My Blushes landed an unlikely success thanks to the perseverance of jockey Paul Carberry in the feature Kilbegnet EBF Novice Chase at Roscommon.

The 7-1 shot looked a forlorn hope when at the back of the field at the fourth-last fence, but Carberry never gave up.< Echo Bob tried to make all the running and still led over the final fence but Carberry conjured a run out of Save My Blushes to win by half a length.

"Carberry was unbelievable on Save My Blushes - I thought he would be pulled up at one stage," said trainer Paul Flynn.

"Save My Blushes is for sale and is entered in the Brightwells Horses-In-Training Sales next month but can be bought before then as it would save me the trip over!

"My wife, Claire Howes, owns him and it was a nice touch to win today."

Trainer Jim Bolger and jockey Kevin Manning took the Flat honours on the mixed card with a 194-1 double through a pair of newcomers in Hurricane Havoc (12-1) and Gift From The Sea (14-1).

After missing the break, Hurricane Havoc came through strongly in the centre of the course to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden by two and a half lengths from Nucals Star

Manning said: "Hurricane Havoc is a nice filly and did it nicely. Hopefully she'll improve further and should step up to a mile without any difficulty."

Gift From The Sea, a 145,000 guineas purchase, made her bid on the far side to beat the more experienced Dearest Girl by three and a half lengths in the Ballyleague Fillies Maiden.

"Gift From The Sea did it well and handled the ground and trip well & ndash; she'll improve plenty from the run," Manning remarked.

Leading apprentice Ben Curtis took his tally for the season to 31 with victory on the 7-2 favourite Headford Lady in the Athlone Handicap.

Nicola Walsh, 19, enjoyed her first riding success when steering home Parc Aux Boules (16-1) for trainer John McConnell in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap.
