Trainer Bill Farrell was delighted to see star mare Ramone prove her shock early-season success at the Curragh was no fluke with a tremendous effort in Saturday's Lanwades Stud Stakes.

The five-year-old struck Group Three gold at 100-1 in the Park Express Stakes in late March and stepped up in class again on Irish 2,000 Guineas day.

Ramone showed plenty of talent and heart to fill the runner-up spot behind Dermot Weld's odds-on favourite Brooch and Farrell will consider sending his charge to Royal Ascot for next month's Duke of Cambridge Stakes, as long as the ground is not too quick.

Farrell said: "We were delighted with her and she handled the better ground well. She doesn't need a bog. She's fine as long as there's no firm in the ground.

"She was in season on Thursday and whether she was completely out of it we're not sure, but either way she ran a good race.

"Richard (Hughes) was very happy with her, but felt she'd have been better with a stronger gallop. She went from being handy to going flat out, but the winner is highly thought of and obviously very good.

"Our mare is entered for Ascot, but whether she goes there depends on the surface.

"She has improved dramatically since her first run of the year. She surprised us with her level of improvement.

"She's also in the Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown (June 18) during Ascot week, so we'll see."
