Cappella Sansevero finished well down the field in the German 2000 Guineas at Cologne.

The Ger Lyons-trained colt had nowhere to go when being produced with his challenge by Colin Keane against the far rail and couldn't land a telling blow.

Oisin Murphy steered hot favourite Karpino to a resounding victory in the race.

Carrying the familiar colours of Sheikh Fahad's Pearl Bloodstock operation, Karpino was bidding to make it three wins from as many starts for leading German trainer Andreas Wohler.

Rock Academy cut out much of the running before Karpino loomed ominously alongside early in the home straight and he quickly went clear once asked to extend by Murphy.

Marco Botti's British raider Fanciful Angel ran a fine race to fill the runner-up spot in the hands of Frankie Dettori, but was no match for the impressive winner.

RaceBets introduced Karpino at 10-1 for the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, for which he would have to be supplemented, but the owner's racing manager David Redvers revealed it was "unlikely" he would be added to the field.

He said: "We couldn't be happier as the horse showed a different level of class and is bred to want a mile and a half.

"A decision on where he will go next will made by Andreas and Sheikh Fahad over the next week."
