Tramore are to hold a 3pm course inspection today to assess the chances of racing ahead of their fixture on Friday, 1st January.

The course was unfit for racing on Monday and with heavy rain due to hit the country last night the situation was being monitored.

Fairyhouse are also due to race on New Year's Day and the ground remains heavy there after 12.7mm of rain overnight. The forecast remains unsettled for the area.

Punchestown are due to race tomorrow and the course remains heavy after 25mm of rain overnight.

The forecast is for more rain this morning, clearing before lunchtime. It is set to be colder with showers tomorrow.

The ground at Thurles is currently heavy ahead of their fixture on Monday January 4th.

Might Bite To Prove His Worth Next Season

There is not much attention given to national hunt racing in the summer months, by punters or by the media. It is, of course, understandable given that our attention is focused on the flat season: the action at Royal Ascot, the Classics and the rest of the elements that define the summer racing season. Some punters might have a dabble at an ante post bet for Cheltenham next year, but by and large we forget about it until the autumn.
