David Griffiths believes veteran sprinter Take Cover is in the best shape of his life ahead of his intended outing in next month's King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The nine year-old showed he is a still a force to be reckoned with when running out the winner of a five-furlong Listed contest at Haydock earlier this month.

With that victory expected to act as an ideal confidence booster, the Bawtry handler is hoping for a good show in the Group One on June 14.

Griffiths said: "I am delighted with Take Cover and the plan worked out well. It was the perfect confidence-booster before Ascot.

"He won by a length and half without really having to extend as nothing really challenged him. He has come back absolutely bouncing and it has done him the world of good.

"It was the right decision to run him in that race instead of on the Saturday (Temple Stakes) as the rain arrived.

"He feels better this year than he has ever done before and now it is all guns blazing to Royal Ascot.

"To be fair, I don't know how confident you can be about winning a Group One, but I am very upbeat about him and he goes there with a live chance."
