Trainer Joe Murphy won with his first two year old runner of the year at Fairyhouse today as his Deep Breath gained a last-gasp win in the Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Fillies Maiden, scoring under jockey Killian Leonard.

The daughter of Bated Breath was slowly away but devoured ground in the closing stages to edge past 4/6 favourite Sankari Royale close home, for a short head win.

Afterwards Murphy said “that’s a nice surprise and she is our first two-year-old and it’s a great incentive by Foran’s Equine to introduce this series for lesser value horses.

“I think there is more improvement in her and a step up to seven (furlongs) and a little ease in the ground will suit her. She got left a bit (at the start) and ran a bit green but when they straightened up, she pulled it out. I actually thought that she hadn’t got up.

“She is a nice filly to have and has a lovely temperament and I think she will be a nice filly down the road. She is owned by Alfie Sweetnam, a farmer in Callan, and it’s nice to get him a winner.”
