Patrick Kelly's High Five Oscar served up a 25/1 surprise in Roscommon's extended two and a half mile maiden hurdle.

The six-year-old gelding raced on the heels of the leaders turning and was switched out in third after jumping the third last.

Adam Short then had him almost on terms with Ard Na Carraig and Nemean Lion at the penultimate flight.

The pair moved into the lead between the last two obstacles and they kept at it well to see off Bosco Di Alco (6/1) by three parts of a length.

Ard Na Carraig, the 7/4 favourite, dropped five and a half lengths away to third.

Patrick Kelly said: "It's great to get it for the owner (John Howley) as he bred him and thinks the world of him.

“The mare (Island Peg) is well bred and it means everything to him as he's had him since a foal.”
